How long have you been racing for?
I’ve been racing myself for a year but have been involved in the sport on and off for 18 years.
What got you first involved in boat racing?
I meet a guy that wanted to build a tough ski boat at a friends workshop. Like many he got involved in circuit racing and eventually had a blown boat. I tagged along to most races they want to.
Who is your favourite racer in any form?
Stevie Jackson (drag racing), Peter Brock and
There’s plenty of great racers in boat racing.
What would you say to anyone thinking about boat racing?
Boat racing can be done to suit anyone’s budget and all classes are fun. Nothing beats the rush of going fast on water.
How far have you travelled during boat racing?
We travel down to Bundaberg often so far but keen to race at Somerset and further south in the future.
Any Nervous moments?
Probably my first drive of Hold My beer. Had first drive late in the afternoon before the 2 day at Bundaberg last year. Took it easy but have learnt heaps since then.
Ritual before races?
Getting my wife to check my safety gear.
Secret to success?
Just have fun. If it’s not fun time to step away.
Future goals in boat racing?
Earlier this year we purchased a hydroplane to run in the Hyper 5 series. I’m really keen to mix it up with those guys. Also get more of my family in the seat and Caleb to work his way up from juniors.
Anyone you’d like to thank?
Gee where do I start.
Firstly my wife. Rach supports me in anything I do even if it’s a pretty crazy idea. My sons and rest of my family always do what they can. David Law always puts in 110% to keep myself and others on the water. Josh, Jess and the rest of the guys at Swick Automotive lot of boats wouldn’t be on the water without them. Todd Hinds always the first person there if someone needs a hand.
Justin at Heathz Automotive for bolting together a great reliable combo for Hold My Beer.
Troy Worsley from Warspeed Industries for parts and advice.
Ben Swan from Swan Racing developments parts to keep our boats up to speed.

Who is your favourite racer in any form?
Hard to pick just one but my top three are Brian McCosker, Ayrton senna, Jason crump.
What would you say to anyone thinking about boat racing?
Be prepared to spend money and don’t shortcut on your safety equipment.
How far have you traveled during boat racing? Wollongong to bundy a few times was our longest drive.
Any Nervous moments?
Coming together with Jeff Stunnel in 2007, and making king of the river at taree, my first big unlimited race lining up with guys like Brian McCosker and Paul Burton.
Ritual before races? Always have to have a nervous pee haha, always have a stretch and try to keep somewhat relaxed.
Secret to success?
Preparation and R&D. Nobody has ever been successful just sitting back and waiting for things to change or following what the crowd is doing. I’m a firm believer you have to keep trying things and always trying to improve on what you have
Future goals in boat racing?
For me in 6 litre I’d like to take out the Trojan, that’s a trophy I hold in pretty high regard. I’ve always been the bridesmaid every time I’ve ran in it haha. I’d be pretty happy if I could give some of the unlimited guys a bit of a shake up , it’s always good to see the little guy giving the big guys a stir up. The Marj Watson would be the ultimate to win and to be the first 6 litre to do it would be pretty special.
Anyone you’d like to thank? Lindsay, Kim and Michael Johnson (Flexistrut). Grant and josh Clifton (Evercraft boats). Ricky Howard (Howard Hydroplanes) Without the help from these guys especially, the boat would still be where it was four years ago. Garry and Rob (Childsplay marine), Lee Kavanagh (Kavanagh Auto Parts). My engine builder Troy Worsley (Warspeed industries), this guy puts up with me asking a million questions a week and forever changing my mind . Dean Borg (proformance marine and body works
